The UNIDROIT Principles of International Commercial Contracts (the "UNIDROIT Principles") were published the first time in 1994. They constitute on a body of rules to govern international commercial contracts, created by a group of experts, without the intervention of a state authority. After twenty years of existence, it is a good time to make an assessment of their application by Arbitral Tribunals. This study was made possible by the existence of the UNILEX database that lists, notably, arbitration awards in which Arbitral Tribunals applied the UNIDROIT Principles.
