This article argues (i) that the impressive performance of the PRC's exports cannot reliably and significantly be imputed to social dumping, (ii) that existing international legal norms as adopted, in particular within the WTO and ILO, do not authorize trade sanctions based on social dumping by exporting countries and (iii) that the incorporation of such sanctions in the international legal framework is unrealistic, and might well entail more disadvantages than advantages, even for the importing countries that might choose to impose them.
